my father bought a 1968 280s manual in the late 80s. Fantasic car! He wishes ever since he sold it in 2001 that he’d kept it

@MB250S1968 … wanted to pay a bit of hommage to it. after the wreck … i couldn’t see her for about 2 weeks because i would cry & it hurt to look at her .. she was unrecognizable and had a deep cut across her face. i was only a child but wish i could’ve taken the injury instead of her.she looked so wounded & fragile. apart from this car saving my mothers life …. this hearts always belonged to vintage classics. thanks for the invite i will have a look

Mercedes-Benz W108 US spec. are pretty ugly.
Euro-specs W108 is better than the US.

@fairvoice Thanks for the info, I can’t really argue since Rover has gone and Merc is in rude health. Horses for courses I suppose, the British are great at sedate luxury, absorbent handling etc the Germans do rock hard suspension and autobahn security. The newer s-classes never did quite outdo Jag XJ for ride and handling though. All Mercs have a hardness to their character that isn’t so endearing as the best luxury cars eg Opel Senator, Peugeot 604 and XJ 6.

I have had the experience of working on both P5s and this particular model. The P5 was a very outdated vehicle, built along traditional English Design ideas and a good car when driven slowly like a funeral hearse. The MB was an advanced Piece of engineering that still shines today. The MB 280 six with the mechanical injection is a superb engine, screaming wonderfully at high revs, except for a flaw in the valve train that is fixable. The P5 six threw connecting rods as if it still was 1928….

How did this compare to the superior Rover P5? Price wise and ability, size wise.
